With effect from 7th March the speed limits have been reduced in Spain.
Motorway driving has been reduced from 120kph to 110kph.
However the more significant reduction has come to normal roads where*30kph is the new limit*. Only a few roads with no buildings on them will see higher speed limits at 50kph. In case you are wondering, 30kph is equivalent to 18.64 miles per hour. I tried this and the road rage I received was unbelievable !
The Governments line is that by reducing speed it will reduce petrol consumption to do their bit for the environment.
Personally I think this is a money making exercise as they are predicting than motorists will be sending more on speeding fines that anything they will save on petrol consumption.
As an aside to this, the Government will have to spend 250,000€ on new road signs and will have to spend more money resetting the speed cameras.
So beware and remember to add on to anticipated journey times.
