Child Safety in Spain

If you are considering hiring a car for all or part of your holiday, or arranging for someone to pick you up / drop you off from the airport, you must be aware that the law in Spain regarding child seats is very similar to that in the UK. Quite simply, if your child requires a child seat/ booster seat in the UK, he/she should have one here. The safety of your child should be paramount and the Spanish are very child friendly and protective towards children.

The police are clamping down and are stopping drivers at random and if you should need a child seat and don’t have one, you could be fined between €150 and €200. You will not be allowed to continue your journey until this fine is paid.

M50 Irish Bar

Another successful venture for Bernie Comaskey, the owner of the famous Paddys Point.

Recently opened in La Zenia on the road down to the beach. The bar is situated on the corner so inside is light and spacious. There is an outside seating area which gets the sun all day. Why not just sit and relax or call in on the way back from the beach.

Cabo Roig Restaurante

Cabo Roig Restaurante is situated on the cliffs above Cabo Roig Marina. It has spectacular views across the sea to Mar Menor and is directly above the marina so you can just sit and watch the boats and jet skis coming and going. You can also look back and see the Cabo Roig beach. If you are bored on the beach, walk along to the marina and up the slope to their sun trap of a terrace.

It has a large seating area inside and out. Sit and have a 3 course meal or try one or two of their vast range of tapas. Alternatively just have a coffee or glass of wine and watch the world go by.

Steps and a slope lead down to the marina where you will find two more restaurant bars on the docks. Again you can relax and just watch the fish go by.

In this present economic climate and recession in the UK and Europe, Property Hounds Cabo Roig always like to ensure the well being of our clients. As you are probably aware the burglaries in the UK have risen and it does not stop when you cross The Channel. It is a policy of ours to always inform guests of their own responsability to avoid such things. Criminals rely on the carefree, relaxed attitude of tourists when they are on holiday. Most offenders are opportunists and you would not go out at home and leave a window open ! This does not mean that you cannot fully enjoy your holiday with us but do not leave your common sense at home when you leave.

LUJOSO Wok Buffet “Punta Prima”

Try this Chinese family run restaurant. Very cheap and friendly. Buffet, eat as much as you like for €8.45 or do as we do. Menu of the day from €5 to €7 for 3-course meal + coffee or beer. Then they give each couple a bottle of wine to take away. As I heard someone say ” I am surprised they do not pay us to come in “. Used a lot by locals. If you do not fancy a Sunday dinner then sit in the garden for the afternoon and enjoy their good food. Children friendly and a joy to visit.

Stefano’s Italian Restaurant

Newly opened is Stefano’s Italian restaurant in Cabo Roig. It was formerly Valentino’s and is near the “Swedish Dentist” on the San Jose Urbanisation. We tried it last night and it was superb. Great food, service and atmosphere. Definitely a must try. Telephone number 966 761 917.

Cabo Roig – Temple Bar in the Sun!

Cabo Roig is fast becoming dubbed “Temple Bar in the Sun” due to its number of Irish Bars dotted along the Cabo Roig Strip. Great authentic Irish bars and restaurants are extremely popular with the thousands of holidaymakers visiting the area each year.

Most of them offer great food, generous portions and all of them produce the obligatory pint of Guiness! The atmosphere is always exciting and the staff hospitable. You can usually catch a live match on the big screens with football and rugby union top of the menu.

At La Zenia, there is the world famous Paddy’s Point bar and restaurant, while a few minutes drive away at Campoamor, the new Bernie Darcy’s offers excellent traditional Irish cooking and is becoming extremely popular.

This list is by no means complete, it’s a few of the ones we have tried, but check them out, you can be sure of a warm Irish welcome!

Top Hot Spots in and around Cabo Roig

Top Hot Spots by Peter Davis, (Cabo Roig’s very own gastronomic connoissuer)

Eduardo’s La Finca off the road from La Frontera to Campoamor Golf Club - excellent eating experience , normal English prices so not cheap but a great night out in excellent surroundings , outside tables during the summer are lovely. Also a great place for lunches by the adjoining swimming pool.

Italian Affair on Cabo Roig strip - great Italian food, but again not the cheapest.

Happy Days Pub on Cabo Roig strip on the same side and just down the road from Asia Chic - good English pub food. It is extremely popular and is reasonably priced.

La Muelle in Torrevieja (down on the water front) Spanish run. Good food including fresh pizzas etc… - excellent when you can get a table outside in the summer and people watch - not too pricey - very popular and you normally have to queue for a table but we would recommend it for a night out

Bar Med Pub behind Flannigans is excellent for breakfasts & lunches.

Asia Chic on the Cabo Roig for good Chinese, Thai and Japanese.

Campoamor Golf Club is another lovely place to have lunch - reasonably priced and good views of La Manga from the tables outside.
They do a nice evening menu as well - another favourite of ours

Along the road from La Finca ( heading towards Campoamor golf ) on the right hand side is another restaurant that we love – El Portalon. It looks like a huge mansion and it is a superb restaurant, Belgian owned. Excellent for fresh fish lovers - everything is cooked fresh and a pleasant dining experience. More expensive but worth a visit for a treat.

Indian – at the Commercial Centre near Playa Golf, Hindustani Roti. Heard it is very good.

Puccinis Italian restaurants in Cabo Roig and Punta Prima which offer excellent food at reasonable prices. Not always easy to get a table and, at the time of writing, if you can prove it’s your birthday and there are 4 or more of you, you get your 3 course meal free!

Eduardos in Villamartin - great food also and a good experience eating in the Villamartin Plaza - very pleasant but we prefer La Finca but well worth recommending for top of range eating out - you have to book here though in the summer.
